Land of Cute (part 2)

Can you guess how many green sea turtles I have seen while snorkeling in Taiwan??!!

We are in Lambai, Taiwan. Lambai is a protected island off the coast of Donggang. We took a ferry here and it was really rocky so I had to go outside.

Half of the island is a town and the other half is a forest. No one drives cars here so everyone drives mopeds, including us!

Our first day here we went to Beauty Caves which are made out of coral. Actually the whole island is made of coral! The caves are more like little tunnels. Here I am drinking the most delicious pineapple iced green tea.

We walked along the beach and discovered a cave/tunnel that led to a small opening and we saw about 5 green sea turtles. They were in the shallow water by the cave eating algae off the rocks.

Then we walked a little further and we saw a beach that had so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so much garbage. After that we decided to go home but we would come back and clean it the next day. So we got giant garbage bags from our hotel and cleaned the beach!!!!!!!!!

We filled two garbage bags. It felt really good to clean the beach but it was also really gross because there were bottles filled with who knows what, cigarette lighters, and even a syringe! There was a lot of glass as well. Don't worry only dad touched the glass and syringe.

The next day we went snorkeling! We got to wear wet suits, booties and snorkles.

The water was cold at first but then I got used to it, especially after I peed in my wetsuit. (I forgot that I was not wearing a bathing suit.) We had ot walk across a dead coral reef to get to the open ocean. It was amazing! We saw lots of Moorish Idols. Have you ever wondered where their name came from? Well turns out a group of people from the olden days called Moors thought the fish were brought happiness, so they called them Moorish Idols. I know that that doesn't make any sense but as mom said "that's the best we got!" I saw 3 sea snakes. I also saw 14 green sea turtles.

I had never been so close to so many turtles. I didn't think it was possible to see so many.

After that we went to the hotel and did our mom school and then we drove to lobster caves but it was just a really dirty beach. After that was a flump, we went to Black Devil Caves. On the way we stopped at a doughnut truck and us kids each got a original sugar coated doughnut.

In this photo I had just taken a bite. They were delicious.

The next day we rented snorkle gear and went out to snorkle. It was not as exciting as the day before because we only saw 1/3 of the fish we saw yesterday. Plus only 5 turtles. I really liked Lambai island. There are a lot of cats and I liked riding the scooter and seeing so many turtles.

I have seen 19 turtles in the water. Did you guess right?

We are going to a place called Chaiyi today. We are slowly going back to Taipei and then to Korea where we will see KRISTINA again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love Ginny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so proud of all of you for picking up the garbage on the beach. We should organize a beach clean up day with all the kids in the neighborhood. You can be the leader. Q

Hi Ginny! I giggled when you said you peed in your wetsuit. At least it made you warm and cozy 😏 I’m sure it’s no fun to get motion sick. Does anything help? Tell the turtles hi for me, they are incredible creatures!
